I've tried 4 different HDs, Seagates and WDs, 40gb to 160gb. The three CD drives are active and run CDs often. As my post read, detaching the floppy drives makes no difference. I could not for the life of me get either cd drive to boot. The diagnostic lights on the back of the tower indicate that the memory was not enabled or properly installed. I have four new blank HDs, two different brands. Can you start over aad state why you changed the h/d with the Dell Windows o/s on it out in the first place?

If the system is set to boot to the cdrom first then the diagnostic tool should start with no problem. I wanted to replace it with something a little smaller. It should not - the computer isn't getting as far as looking for drives, but try physically disconnecting it and attempting to boot. and start the self test.... NOTE...do not put a blank cd in until burncdcc opens the tray for you 1. The difference from P3 to P4 is staggering.
