Clearly, this is simply a way to force people to replace lost or worn adapters (which typically are not under warranty) only from Dell. All my soldering knowledge is limited to power jack replacement. Try bypassing the button by shorting it's contacts on the underside of the PCB where it resides (if it's not surface mount). The problem with the laptop I have is the middle pin broke out of the DC connector.

You'll have to clean contacts on the motherboard. Must be a world first.
